Questions
Frequently asked questions
- How long is a Tabata workout?
- One Tabata block is exactly 4 minutes: 8 rounds of 20 seconds work and 10 seconds rest. Most sessions stack several blocks with a longer rest between them, changing the exercise each time.
- What is the 20/10 Tabata ratio?
- Twenty seconds of maximum-intensity work followed by ten seconds of rest. The ratio comes from Dr Izumi Tabata’s 1996 study on Japanese speed skaters, which used that structure at around 170% of VO2 max.
- Can I change the work and rest times?
- Yes. The timer opens on the standard 20/10 × 8, but you can set any combination of rounds, work, and rest, and save it as your own preset.
- Does the Tabata timer work offline?
- Yes. Once the page has loaded it keeps working without a connection, and you can install it to your home screen so it opens like an app.
